Saturday, May 11     Snell Valley Rare Wildflower Walk, Missimer Wildflower Preserve

Leader: Jake Ruygt (707) 253-1839

The Missimer Wildflower Preserve is known for the diversity and display of wildflowers that occur in the extremely rare serpentine grassland habitat in the spring. The wildflower fields have long been recognized by Bay Area botanists as gems of the regional flora of the North Coast Ranges. Highlight species in May would be Delphiniums, cream sacs, and Ithuriel's spear.  After exploring the large meadow to the south of the road we will have lunch next to the small creek to the north, followed by further exploration of the woodland and chaparral habitats nearby. An afternoon walk to explore the woodland and chaparral habitats may be added if there is enough interest.

This hike requires registration.

Please sign up for this special wild flower walk at:

Napa Valley Mosses

Moss

The following is a request from Stephen Rae, Ph.D., Plant Ecologist/Bryologist, for people interested in assisting him with collecting and photographing mosses in Napa County.

Stephen is a member of CNPS and a Master Gardener.

"I need partners to accompany me on collecting trips around Napa County while I collect and photograph mosses.  Trips will be during both weekdays and weekends for portions or all of a day.  I will be driving to various locations (perhaps several in a day) and spending enough time to collect representative specimens of mosses and to photograph selected materials.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone to learn more about the flora of Napa County."

All collections will be deposited in the UC Davis herbarium (DAV) (University of California at Davis), as these efforts are in connection with a research project associated with my position as a UCD staff associate.

There will be no collecting of sensitive plant species.
